Soap opera actors jokingly refer to what they do every day as the Minute Rice School of Acting. There is an enormous amount of material that must be learned and delivered competently on a daily basis, and the character and scene intentions must be clear and instant. When auditioning for a Soap Opera, you must show that you are able to meet the challenge as an actor.
When you come in to a Soap Opera Audition, you get one chance to prove to the casting department that you can do the job. Be confident, be capable, be dressed appropriately, and be prepared. Learn you sides or audition scene as though you were reporting for the job. Don’t put down your script, but show the casting panel that you can do the scene effortlessly.
Dress like a soap star. Look through a soap magazine or watch an episode on television to get a feel for the look and style. There is definitely a “type” to the casting choices in daytime. Learn it and copy it as best you can for your soap opera audition. The style is moving to a more natural look, but be informed. You can often watch episodes on the Internet if you can’t be home or tape an episode before you go in for a part.
